# Accessibility

Communicate a chart's meaning beyond color, motion, and pointer interaction.

<a id="meaning"></a>

## Titles and alternative data

Describe the metric, unit, period, and data source in text beside the chart. Provide a table or download when precise numerical comparisons matter. Make aria-labels and descriptions convey the meaning of the actual data.

<a id="keyboard"></a>

## Keyboard interaction

Check supported zoom, selection, and legend actions with the keyboard. Make essential tooltip information available in text or a table as well. Consult each chart's API for its supported events and methods.

<a id="motion"></a>

## Color and motion

Use series names and marker shapes so groups are not distinguished by color alone. Check background and label contrast, and disable animated when users prefer reduced motion.

```javascript
chart.animated = !matchMedia('(prefers-reduced-motion: reduce)').matches;
```
